Mainstreaming Religious Moderation in Public Universities: Case Studies at University of Pamulang Jakarta

Abstract

The policy of religious moderation launched by the Ministry of Religious Affairs has received a response from many educational institutions, including Public Universities, in this case, the University of Pamulang Jakarta. This article is the result of research aimed to describe and analyze the implementation of religious moderation on the University of Pamulang Jakarta, especially in the Kampus Unpam Mengaji (KUM) division. This research uses a qualitative approach, namely case studies. This article found that The Kampus Unpam Mengaji does not declare itself an institution that openly promotes religious moderation. However, judging from various aspects, this institution applies the concept of religious moderation following the policy of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The implementation of religious moderation can be seen from: (1) The insertion of religious moderation materials through curriculum and learning materials that include, among others, fiqh, tafsir, hadith, thematic, moral, and sirah. (2) Learning methods and strategies that can stimulate intensive discussion of religious moderation. Its implementation is in the form of halaqah that imitates the tradition of pesantren. (3) Other activities carried out separately and indeed intended as a form of embodiment of religious moderation such as national and international seminars.
