Local Wisdom as a Medium for Integrating Faith and Knowledge in Character Education at Elementary Schools

This study aims to explore the integration of faith and knowledge through local wisdom-based character education in elementary schools. In the era of globalization and digital transformation, the moral and spiritual foundations of students are increasingly challenged by individualistic and materialistic values. Local wisdom, as an indigenous source of ethical and moral guidance, provides contextual approaches to strengthening faith and knowledge integration within educational practices. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method, involving teachers, students, and community leaders as informants. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results show that local wisdom practices, such as community cooperation (gotong royong), environmental care, and religious rituals, significantly contribute to developing students’ spiritual and intellectual balance. The integration of faith and knowledge is realized through contextual learning models that link religious values with scientific understanding and local culture. This approach promotes not only cognitive development but also moral, emotional, and social maturity among students. The study concludes that local wisdom can effectively serve as a pedagogical bridge that harmonizes religious faith and scientific knowledge in character education.
